A Brief History The original Mulroy Nursing Home was established in 1985, in the nearby town of Normanby, as part of a major initiative to offer life in a community Home for residents experiencing mental health problems. For many years this work continued and in November 2004, just before the twentieth year, a long awaited move to Redcar took place for the family of residents. This move was a welcome opportunity to all concerned and offered an improved location on a site that fulfils the new care standards requirements. It has 20 single, en-suite bedrooms and a luxuriously spacious interior. ‘Good things come to those who wait.' The Registration was transferred to the new location along with the full compliment of staff, history and enthusiasm. The new name Mulroy's Seaview is an amalgamation of two names from two different sites – the Mulroy Home moves to Seaview. Redcar is a lovely seaside town with a history that spans back to Edwardian times, when it was a major holiday resort. It is situated on the North East Coast of North Yorkshire and is just 20 minutes away from the Yorkshire moors. A short minibus ride opens up the potential and the expanse of the Yorkshire countryside and its unique villages. “It's a great place to be!”
Ownership and Management David McArthur is owner and manager. A nurse (RMN, RGN) with the family of residents since 1990. Ambition! To continue working as owner / manager with total commitment. Family Business: Kay McArthur (wife and partner) works full time at the Home. Both happily married with two children.
The Philosophy of the Home This family run home is one home and one home only, which enjoys the concentrated efforts of many. There are no shareholders or groups involved and the owner / manager is on site most days. Initiatives, decisions and support are immediate, due to this arrangement. With twenty-one residents, the population is about right. The residents enjoy a homely environment with generous proportions. We know that a home should always provide a ‘welcome' and families and resident's selected friends enjoy free meal s , good music and good company during their visit. The atmosphere is always good and wholesome.
Uniqueness We recognise the uniqueness of individuals and we consider the individuality of each resident as we go forward each day.
A Strong Sense of Belief We believe that negative behaviours can be reversed and that the “we can do this” has to be the attitude to be fostered. We promote positive thinking and as a result we see residents ‘move forward.' In short; rather than say, ‘it can't be done!' We would rather say; ‘When shall we start'. A strong sense of belief and commitment often drives the initiative forward despite the ‘odds against.' A key ingredient is ‘passion!' and a strong sense of belief. You have been warned - it is infective'.
Staffing An RMN is present continually at the home, supported by generous numbers of carers each day - above and beyond the statutory requirement. We offer good pay and conditions to all staff . We do not use agencies, as this could interrupt good, consistent care. The home strives to continually develop a responsible, innovative and well-trained team, responsive to the needs of the residents. Our staff members are unique individuals who need to feel valued. Staff enjoy flexible rotas and free food each day. A home is only as good as its staff.
